Tuesday Display Chain Make Do

In earlier times people worked hard, struggled and knew the value of their earnings.Things were built to last unlike todays and there was no Walmart to run to if you needed something.People learned to "make do" with what they had. They altered, repaired and repurposed to make what they needed.Today we still "make do" with our arts and crafts and decorating, not out of need but because we want to be in touch with our past....... This is the first display chain I've done.I thought long and hard about the make do theme and thought of tons of things I used to have like wood trenchers with a barn tin patch, tools repurposed etc..They have long went to other homes. Then my mind which likes to work hardest when I should be fast asleep decided yes you do still have make dos and these are the items I picked....

This antique large 15 gallon crock someone took extra time to turn it into a perfect butter churn.I have many crocks and butter churns but this one is unique that it was altered for this butterchurn. It has a hand made wood lid with clamps to hold it secure. On top is a crank handle to churn.

Inside are three metal paddles to whip the cream into butter..

They even thought to add a spout to drain the leftover "buttermilk" from the butter.Boy was that buttermilk a extra treat in days of old..

My primitive house I just adore.Purchased in Lancaster PA. It is made out a old biscuit box and the inside still retains some of the label and has the painted lettering.Probly made by a father who could not afford mercantile bought toys as a gift.
Bear Baby. He's listed in my etsy shop if anyone loves him and wants him in there home.He has a straw stuffed mohair body and composition baby head.So well loved over the years. Not sure of his orgins but I like to think that they were two toss aways that a servant mother collected from a spoiled child and made into a loving creation for her child.Or maybe they made these but I've never seen them.
Modern day make do by me..Pinkeep..Old apothercary measure reads uncle sam on the glass, lavender filled muslin sachet to hold my antique pins. I know I'll think of tons more after this is finshed.LoL.Hope you enjoyed my display of one of a kinds.Harvest Blessings!~Amy

Great post Amy! What an ingenious old churn-love that they added a spout. The dollhouse is a real treasure. Thanks for sharing your make-dos with us. :)
