Tuesday's Display Chain Out of the Closet Hidden Obsession

I struggled with this weeks display chain.Couldn't decide if I wanted to do old hangers, bowls, buckets or what.I have alot of favorites but when I thought about it, what I needed was the hidden things that I don't normally show.. So here it is...A bit weird but interesting non the less.I don't collect these items and don't display them in my house...I sell them...I've always been drawn to victorian customs and this branches from that.Old Religious and Mourning Items. Some are pretty and some are a bit gothic........ Ornate Victorian Religious Alter. There is a place for a cross on the back and I believe a rosary was placed on top....
Mourning Pictures for remembrance....
Sad..Child weeps..
Pretty image of angel carrying child to heaven
Mourning pin..
Large early 1800's Bible....
Mourning Bonnet...
German Composition Angels...
Girls before christening.....
Mourning book with bible verses circa 1877
A bit weird but it was a custom to take pictures of the dead...For most families this was the only picture they had of loved ones..
Very rare advertisement for memorial cards...
I always find these items when out searching..They are unusual....Now head over to Misi's and check out the other display chain links. http://1890gablehousemusings.blogspot.com/2011/01/tuesdays-display-chain.html
Warm Blessings!~Amy

I would sometimes see pics of people after they had died and thought -- how strange.... But now that you have explained that they were often times the only picture a family would have, I can see the importance of them back in the day. Thanks for sharing!! (and as my sister would say -- education is lifelong!!)

Hi Amy! Thanks for entering my giveaway, I have you written down. I am now a follower of your blog and looking forward to getting to know you this year!

Very interesting items indeed! I tend to skim right over these types of things when I'm out antiquing but when you really focus on them, they are quite interesting.

I found this post very interesting, didn't know about a lot of the items you mentioned. But when my mom passed away we found pictures of the dead in her picture boxes ~ mostly small children.
Prim Blessings! Robin
